{"id":598187,"date":"2026-08-19T15:08:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T15:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/598187\/"},"modified":"2026-08-19T15:08:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T15:08:09","slug":"death-notice-for-second-teenager-killed-in-m9-crash-posted-to-rip-ie-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/598187\/","title":{"rendered":"Death notice for second teenager killed in M9 crash posted to RIP.ie \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The funeral notice for one of the teenagers killed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/2026\/08\/16\/several-deaths-in-head-on-collision-on-m9-motorway\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/2026\/08\/16\/several-deaths-in-head-on-collision-on-m9-motorway\/\">M9 crash<\/a> on Sunday morning has been posted online.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The notice for Alex McCarthy (16), from Carlow, was published on death notices website RIP.ie on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Issued by Lacey\u2019s Funeral Directors, the notice said McCarthy\u2019s parents were \u201cheartbroken\u201d by his death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It said he was \u201cdeeply loved\u201d by his parents, Lucelle and Edward, and  \u201cadored\u201d by his siblings, Jordan, Edward, Donna and Nakita.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cAlex will be sadly missed by parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, loving and heartbroken girlfriend Georgia, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives and friends,\u201d the notice reads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The condolences section, which allows the posting of public comments, was disabled on the notice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Funeral details for the teenager have yet to be published.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It is the second notice posted to the website since the crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A funeral notice for Joe Carthy (15) from Athy, Co Kildare, was published on RIP.ie on Monday morning. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/2026\/08\/18\/funeral-notice-for-teenager-killed-in-m9-crash-removed-from-ripie\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/ireland\/2026\/08\/18\/funeral-notice-for-teenager-killed-in-m9-crash-removed-from-ripie\/\">It was removed some hours later.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">RIP.ie, which is owned by The Irish Times Group, said it did not comment on individual funeral notices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Before being removed, the notice attracted hundreds of comments after it was posted to the website\u2019s Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Some were sympathetic with the family\u2019s loss;  others were angry about the circumstances that saw the five masked teens driving a high-powered BMW  the wrong way down the M9 motorway at 3am on Sunday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">There was also sympathy expressed for the innocent victims of the tragedy, sisters Alma and Niamh Kinsella, their younger sister Ella Hendricken and an unnamed seven-year-old nephew who was seriously injured in the incident. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\">An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na<\/a> this morning said in a statement: \u201cThe family of the victims of the M9 collision have asked for their privacy to be respected.
