A father of an infant daughter who was attacked on the street shortly after he left his home in Cork city earlier this year died of a stab wound to the body, an inquest has heard.<\/p>\n
An inquest into the death of Oleksandr Zhyvytskyi was briefly opened in Cork this morning.<\/p>\n
Mr Zhyvytskyi, 31, left the apartment he shared with his wife and daughter in Camden Court, Carroll’s Quay, in Cork city at 7.30pm on 16 March.<\/p>\n
When he returned to the apartment shortly afterwards he was visibly injured. His wife raised the alarm.<\/p>\n
Paramedics rushed to the scene. However, they were unable to resuscitate him and he died in his home.<\/p>\n
Cork Coroner\u2019s Court heard that Viktoriya Saranchuk formally identified the body of her husband at the morgue in Cork University Hospital following his death.<\/p>\n
She was accompanied to hospital by garda liaison officer Eric Stafford.<\/p>\n
State Pathologist Dr Sally Anne Collis carried out the post-mortem examination on the deceased on 17 March.<\/p>\n
Coroner Philip Comyn read out the results of the post-mortem examination.<\/p>\n
He said that Mr Zhyvtskyi suffered a stab wound to the trunk. He died as a result of the injury.<\/p>\n
The inquest was opened to facilitate the issuing of a death certificate.<\/p>\n
Sergeant Fergus Twomey said that a comprehensive garda investigation followed the death of Mr Zhyvtskyi.<\/p>\n
A file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecution.<\/p>\n
A 42-year-old man subsequently appeared in court charged with the murder of Mr Zhyvtskyi.<\/p>\n
Sgt Twomey applied for an adjournment in the case as the man has been returned for trial at the Central Criminal Court.<\/p>\n
Mr Comyn told the widow of the deceased that the matter would come before the Coroner\u2019s Court again following the completion of the trial. This will take “some time.”<\/p>\n
