{"id":599831,"date":"2026-08-21T04:20:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-21T04:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/599831\/"},"modified":"2026-08-21T04:20:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-21T04:20:10","slug":"gardai-in-limerick-seize-40-electronic-vehicles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/599831\/","title":{"rendered":"Garda\u00ed in Limerick seize 40 electronic vehicles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Garda\u00ed in Limerick have announced the seizure of 40 e-scooters, electric bikes and scramblers.<\/p>\n<p>The seizures were made as part of Operation Meac\u00e1n, an initiative that aims to tackle the use of electric vehicles such as electric motorbikes, e-scooters and e-bikes that are being used illegally in public spaces, and for more serious criminal offences, such as drug dealing and transporting firearms.<\/p>\n<p>Garda\u00ed attached to the Limerick Division from the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) and Community Policing, supported by uniform members, conducted two days of action on Tuesday and Wednesday that led to the seizures.<\/p>\n<p>During the operation, members of the RPU utilised dynamometers to test e-scooters and establish compliance with the relevant legislative requirements.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A number of seized electric vehicles are seen on the back of a flatbed truck\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/0024dfb2-614.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nSome of the seized vehicles<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This provided members with an effective means of identifying vehicles that were being used in breach of the applicable legislation,&#8221; garda\u00ed said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>A number of properties were also searched.<\/p>\n<p>The operation sought not only to identify and enforce road traffic offences but also to deter and disrupt the use of these vehicles in connection with criminal activity.<\/p>\n<p>Investigations are ongoing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Garda\u00ed in Limerick have announced the seizure of 40 e-scooters, electric bikes and scramblers.
