It\u2019s not every\u00a0Treasure Island\u00a0adaptation that has you more creeped out by its fresh-faced Jim Hawkins than its grizzled pirate, Long John Silver, but that might wind up being the case with Ridley Scott\u2019s. Scott (currently on the campaign trail for his latest film The Dog Stars<\/a>) has, after all, already confirmed that certified nice guy Hugh Jackman\u2014cinema\u2019s Wolverine!\u2014will be playing his personal version of Robert Louis Stevenson\u2019s famed pirate\/fast seafood namesake. But as for Hawkins, the director is going for a kid who recently gave one of the most chilling performances in recent memory: Owen Cooper\u2014or, as Scott himself charmingly referred to him in a recent interview, \u201cThe kid from Adolescence<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is per\u00a0Collider\u2018s recent interview with Scott,<\/a> where he confirmed that he\u2019s currently in casting for Treasure Island, which he\u2019s now formally set as his next project. Jackman\u2019s been nailed down for the movie for a while at this point, but Scott also said he\u2019s now pursuing fellow member of the Hugh Crew Hugh Grant for a part, as well as Cooper. Who\u2019s had a small, but dense, career since making his debut with Adolescence, where he played young murder suspect Jamie Miller during the show\u2019s critically celebrated four-episode run. Since then, Cooper\u2019s appeared in Emerald Fennell\u2019s Wuthering Heights<\/a>, as the young version of Jacob Elordi\u2019s Heathcliff, and has lined up a number of other projects in a very short span of time, i.e., since about five minutes after casting directors in Hollywood saw the show\u2019s landmark third episode and immediately went, \u201cOh, okay.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scott began making noises about tackling\u00a0Treasure Island\u00a0back in June<\/a>, signing Jackman on at the time. Possibly not coincidentally, Scott\u2019s writer and executive producer for the project is Jack Thorne, who co-created\u00a0Adolescence, and is thus very familiar with Cooper\u2019s talents.
