The cast of new comedy Spa Weekend have said that they had a ball shooting the movie on the Gold Coast in Australia – even when a cyclone stopped production for three days.<\/p>\n

Directed by the team behind The Hangover movies and Bad Moms, it sees Leslie Mann, Michelle Buteau, Isla Fisher and Anna Faris play old friends who get away from it all on a relaxing weekend in a wellness retreat, only for things to go very awry.<\/p>\n

It was shot at the same time three other movies were being made in the area, including Jack Black’s new comedy, but when a cyclone hit, production ground to a halt.<\/p>\n

“We were having fun, the hi-jinxes were hi-jinking, we were in robes, we were drinking fake champagne which actually makes you feel tipsy,” said Buteau, a stand-up comedian who has previously appeared in movies such as Moonshot and Clerks III.<\/p>\n

“We were having fun, on and off camera so the whole thing felt like one big slumber party.”<\/p>\n

“We were part of a sort of natural disaster,” says Mann. “There were three other films shooting as well as ours and we were basically all in the same digs so it was just this wild time – the windows were rattling and Jack Black was playing cards . . . “<\/p>\n

They were left with no choice but to play board games and well, hit the bar.<\/p>\n

“We were four actresses who thought they\u2019re going to die!” exclaims Faris. “But it definitely felt like one of those rare feelings of ‘this is work?\u2019<\/p>\n

“I get to hang out with my best friends, if they\u2019ll have me. Our wardrobe is robes, we\u2019re getting hauled around in golf carts, I don\u2019t have to do my own stunts most of the time . . . it was heaven!”<\/p>\n

In Spa Weekend, Mann plays the uptight Jane, Buteau is badass Coco, Fisher is trainwreck Mel, and Faris is workaholic Sophie.<\/p>\n

However, when Mel turns up uninvited and unannounced, chaos ensues and their holiday turns into a comedy of errors.<\/p>\n

All eyes will be on Australian actress Fisher as the anarchic Mel. Everywhere she goes, madness follows.<\/p>\n

“Surprisingly, there are parameters to Mel,” Fisher says. “So she doesn\u2019t have many social graces and she does get to act out but I also had to be careful that I didn\u2019t go too far or else why would these women who are so clever and beautiful, and have their shit together be friends with someone like Mel? I was walking a tightrope.”<\/p>\n

As descends, lessons about friendship are learnt but the question remains – why are they are still friends with Mel when she is such an agent of chaos?<\/p>\n

“I do believe that if you have a friend who is a liability you need to kick them out. That\u2019s my feeling on it,” says Faris with a laugh.<\/p>\n
