Measles is one of the world’s most contagious diseases. The virus is spread through exhaled air when an infected person breathes, sneezes or coughs. The disease is generally uncommon in Sweden.

Drug-resistant Gonorrhea: An urgent threat to public health worldwide

An infected person can infect others from 4 days before to 4 days after the rash appears. Even if the infected person has left the room, the infection can spread for up to 2 hours later. The incubation period (the time from being infected until the disease breaks out) is 7–21 days.

The most common symptoms of measles are high fever, dry cough and red, irritated eyes. After a few days, a rash develops, often starting on the face and then spreading to the rest of the body.

Vaccination protection is crucial. Vaccination against measles is included in the national childhood vaccination program and vaccination coverage is around 95 percent. Children receive good protection against measles after one dose of vaccine, and two doses of vaccine provide long-term protection. If you have had the disease, you have lifelong protection.

The Sweden Public Health Agency, or Folkhalsomyndigheten, reports the measles outbreak linked to the Urkult festival in Region…

[10
103,61,60
post-601528","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-health","tag-health","tag-ie","tag-ireland
["GET
