\nFurther searches to find the remains of Fiona Pender were carried out last year<\/p>\n
A memorial walk will take place later today on the 30th anniversary of the disappearance of Fiona Pender.<\/p>\n
Relatives and friends of the 25-year-old will take part in the annual walk which begins at ‘Fiona’s Way’ on the Grand Canal in Tullamore, Co Offaly.<\/p>\n
Ms Pender was last seen at her flat on Church Street in the town on 23 August, 1996.<\/p>\n
She was seven months pregnant at the time of her disappearance.<\/p>\n
While garda\u00ed long suspected Ms Pender had been murdered and had a chief suspect, the case was, until last year, a missing persons investigation.<\/p>\n
The suspect is from the midlands and has emigrated from Ireland.<\/p>\n
Ms Pender is believed to have been murdered and her body buried although no remains have been recovered.<\/p>\n
Five arrests were made in the case in 1997, but no one has ever been charged.<\/p>\n
Over the years, Ms Pender’s mother Josephine campaigned tirelessly for a breakthrough in the case, continuously appealing for information to find her daughter.<\/p>\n
She died in 2017.<\/p>\n

Fiona’s father Sean died in 2000 and her brother Mark died in a motorcycle crash 14 months before her disappearance.<\/p>\n
In May last year searches took place at bogland in Killeigh, Co Offaly, and in the Slieve Bloom mountains, close to Clonaslee in Co Laois.<\/p>\n
Ms Pender’s relatives and friends have said that despite the passage of time, people in Tullamore will always remember her and hope always remains that her body will be recovered.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed have again appealed for information and are urging anyone who has any information and who has not previously spoken to garda\u00ed, to contact them.<\/p>\n
They also are appealing to anyone who may have previously come forward and who felt they could not provide garda\u00ed with all the information, to contact the investigation team again.<\/p>\n
As part of the investigation, garda\u00ed say they have collated thousands of documents and reports and taken over 300 statements of evidence.<\/p>\n
