The 6ix\u00a0is welcoming\u00a0the seven members of BTS \u2013 even naming a boulevard after them.<\/p>\n
Toronto rolled out a\u00a0series of celebratory events as part of its \u201cBTS Weekend\u201d on Friday to celebrate the band\u2019s\u00a0\u201cArirang\u201d world tour concerts over the weekend, according to the group\u2019s agency BigHit Music on Monday.<\/p>\n
The iconic Toronto Sign \u2014 a sign that reads \u201cToronto\u201d in\u00a0Nathan Phillips Square directly in front of Toronto City Hall \u2014 was lit up in BTS\u2019s signature purple over the weekend.<\/p>\n
The section of Young Street from North York Boulevard to Finch Avenue has been temporarily renamed \u201cBTS Boulevard.\u201d The new name will be in place until Sept. 23. The city also hung\u00a0a street sign displaying the new name in red, the band\u2019s main color scheme for its latest album \u201cArirang.\u201d<\/p>\n
The celebration is more than just fanfare, Toronto said; it\u2019s a celebration of the local Korean Canadian community.\u00a0The city hopes to use BTS Boulevard to promote its diverse Korean Canadian businesses.<\/p>\n
Lily Cheng, the Toronto city councilor who proposed the initiative, hopes that the project will breathe life into the community and attract tourists, according to BigHit Music.<\/p>\n
