The nationwide hosepipe ban in place since late last month has been extended in 13 counties, with the ban lifting on 26 August for 13 other counties, Uisce \u00c9ireann has said.<\/p>\n
The Water Conservation Order came into effect as Ireland’s prolonged spell of hot, dry weather put drinking water supplies under pressure.<\/p>\n
The order applies to all households and prohibits the use of hosepipes for activities such as washing cars, watering gardens and filling paddling pools.<\/p>\n
Uisce \u00c9ireann extended the ban until the end of September for Carlow, Cork, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Meath, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow, saying that the supplies need more time to recover.<\/p>\n
It will lift the conservation order on 26 August in Cavan, Clare, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Leitrim, Longford, Louth, Mayo, Monaghan, Roscommon, Sligo and Westmeath. The organisation thanked the public for efforts to help protect supplies.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Uisce \u00c9ireann said the decision reflects the “positive impact of public water conservation efforts and improved conditions in many areas”.<\/p>\n
“In parts of the east and south, however, water sources and public water supplies remain under pressure and require continued protection,” it said.<\/p>\n
At the time the ban was put in place, Uisce \u00c9ireann said the restrictions were necessary to ensure there is sufficient water for homes, businesses, farms, hospitals, vulnerable customers and other essential services in the weeks ahead.<\/p>\n
