{"id":603702,"date":"2026-08-25T02:08:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T02:08:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/603702\/"},"modified":"2026-08-25T02:08:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T02:08:08","slug":"search-continues-for-person-missing-from-ferry-in-irish-sea-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/603702\/","title":{"rendered":"Search continues for person missing from ferry in Irish Sea \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A search was continuing on Monday evening for a person believed to have gone overboard from a ferry in the Irish Sea. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/irish-coast-guard\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/irish-coast-guard\/\">Coast Guard<\/a> Helicopter 116 was involved in the search while the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/royal-national-lifeboat-institution\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/royal-national-lifeboat-institution\/\">RNLI<\/a> lifeboat from D\u00fan Laoghaire was also assisting, having taken over from the Howth lifeboat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The search is centred on an area about 40km east of the Baily lighthouse at Howth Head, but the operation is being co-ordinated by the UK Coast Guard at Holyhead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The alarm  was initially  raised on Monday morning. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In a statement, the UK Coast Guard said it had responded to a report made at about 9.15am that a man may have gone overboard from a passenger vessel during an overnight crossing between Dublin and Holyhead. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cAn HM Coastguard helicopter and aeroplane were sent as well as RNLI lifeboats from Holyhead, Porthdinllaen and Howth.
