The Smiths guitarist will release his fifth solo album, The Age of Everything, in October<\/p>\n
\n\tJohnny Marr<\/a> released a new single, \u201cIt\u2019s Time.\u201d The uplifting rock number is the third song to emerge from the Smiths<\/a> guitarist\u2019s forthcoming LP, The Age of Everything, out Oct. 2 via BMG. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201c\u2019It\u2019s Time\u2019 is my way of singing about some worldly issues but finding defiance in idealism,\u201d Marr said in a statement. \u201cI wanted a lyric that matched the exuberance of the music but is actually about resisting cynicism and corruption: \u2018Everybody ain\u2019t making it, change the weather and breaking it. Mobilize to know the truth. Open eyes to know the truth.\u2019 I guess it\u2019s about the assholes with dodgy views.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe music video for \u201cIt\u2019s Time\u201d was filmed earlier this year at the biggest headlining show of Marr\u2019s solo career, held at Manchester\u2019s Castlefield Bowl. <\/p>\n \n\tThe Age of Everything, Marr\u2019s fifth full-length studio album, features 10 tracks. It was written in London, developed live on the road across the East Coast of the U.S., and recorded in Manchester. The musician has so far shared \u201cSpin\u201d and \u201cOphelia.\u201d <\/p>\n \t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cThis is the record that\u2019s been the most cathartic,\u201d Marr shared when the album was announced. \u201cThe title came to me early in the process and became an inescapable idea. It seemed to sum up the way I think a lot of people are feeling. It\u2019s all encompassing, but it\u2019s not necessarily a negative statement. There\u2019s a sense of overwhelm in the culture brought about by technology, but looking at it with a different light, there could also be a sense of possibility.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tAlong with the album, Marr will released an illustrated, enhanced, and reformatted anniversary edition of his autobiography, Set the Boy Free in Oct. 22 via Thames & Hudson.
