A man who was seriously injured in a “weather-related incident” in Co Donegal on Friday has died, garda\u00ed have confirmed.<\/p>\n
The man, aged in his 40s, was fatally injured in the incident, which happened at a domestic residence in Letterkenny at around 4.15pm.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed and emergency services personnel attended the scene.<\/p>\n
The man’s body has since been removed to the morgue at Letterkenny University Hospital, where an autopsy will be carried out in due course.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed say they are continuing to carry out enquiries and the results of the autopsy will determine the course of those enquiries going forward.<\/p>\n
A file will on the matter will also be prepared for the Coroner.<\/p>\n
A status red wind warning for Co Donegal was in place from 4pm until 6pm on Friday. A status red weather warning is the most severe warning Met \u00c9ireann issues and is rarely used. When it is, people in the affected areas are asked to take action to protect themselves and\/or their properties, according to the forecaster.<\/p>\n
Donegal, along with Clare and all of Connacht, then fell under a status orange wind warning until 10pm on Friday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The rest of the country has been under a yellow wind warning since midday on Friday. The warning is currently set to lapse at midnight, though a number of fresh warnings have been issued for Saturday.<\/p>\n
Met \u00c9ireann meteorologist Linda Hughes told RT\u00c9 Radio 1 that even after the red warning for Co Donegal lifts, there could be fallen trees and damage to power lines, so people should use “great caution”.<\/p>\n
It comes as ESB Networks said 124,000 homes, farms and businesses are without power,\u202fpredominantly in Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim, and Cavan.<\/p>\n
“With Met \u00c9ireann weather warnings still in place, and the dynamic nature of the event,\u202ffurther power outages can be expected throughout the evening,” a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
