{"id":604459,"date":"2026-08-25T20:06:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T20:06:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/604459\/"},"modified":"2026-08-25T20:06:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T20:06:09","slug":"mcdonalds-seeks-planning-permission-to-open-new-cork-drive-thru-restaurant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/604459\/","title":{"rendered":"McDonald\u2019s seeks planning permission to open new Cork drive-thru restaurant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu internal_Body1st\">McDonald\u2019s is planning a new drive-thru restaurant in Cork\u2019s Fota Retail Park near Carrigtwohill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The fast food giant is investing \u20ac150m to open 25 new restaurants across Ireland over the next five years, despite increased competition from rival fast food chains expanding rapidly across Ireland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">In a new planning application, the company is seeking permission from Cork County Council for the new outlet on lands at Fota Retail &amp; Business Park, Carrigtwohill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The development will consist of the construction of a single-storey drive-thru restaurant including signage, car parking, EV charging spaces, bicycle parking, a height restrictor, customer order points with associated canopies, totem signage, digital menu boards and outdoor furniture\/seating area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The company said that approximately 1,750 new jobs will be added through the addition of five new restaurants each year, with McDonald\u2019s planning to open its 100th restaurant in Ireland next year, which will coincide with its 50th anniversary since first establishing a presence in Ireland on Dublin\u2019s Grafton Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Today, McDonald\u2019s operates 96 restaurants in Ireland.
