After its first season ended on a fiery, dramatic cliffhanger, the future of Disney+<\/a> comedy series Alice and Steve<\/a> has finally been confirmed, with stars Nicola Walker and Jemaine Clement set to return for a second season.<\/p>\n

Co-stars Yali Topol Margalith and Joel Fry will also be back for season 2, which will once again be written by creator Sophie Goodhart.<\/p>\n

Season 1 saw Walker’s character Alice finding herself devastated when her best friend, Clement’s Steve, started dating her 26-year-old daughter Izzy (Margalith).<\/p>\n

The season ended<\/a> with Steve and Izzy about to get married, but a fire at their wedding venue the night before the big day turned everything upside down.<\/p>\n

Steve found himself trapped inside the building, with Alice going in to save him. The two of them tried to escape via the roof, and ended up jumping off, with their fates left up in the air.<\/p>\n

On the renewal news, Goodhart said: “I am so thrilled that Alice and Steve has been given a second season. No one will be prepared for what happens next, especially not Alice and Steve.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Petra Fried, joint managing director of production company Clerkenwell Films added: “We absolutely love Alice and Steve – both the show and of course the two characters at the heart of Sophie\u2019s brilliantly messy, funny and fearless exploration of friendship and love.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re thrilled to be bringing it back for a second season and can’t wait for audiences to see what Sophie has in store for our favourite frenemies.”<\/p>\n

Lee Mason, VP, scripted, Disney+ EMEA, said: “It\u2019s been fantastic to see the rapturous reactions to Alice and Steve from viewers at home. Sophie has created a distinctive and original comedy, striking a chord and sparking debate with audiences across the country.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m excited to see what mayhem Sophie and Clerkenwell have in store for our titular characters after that delicious cliffhanger \u2013 but we can expect more laughs, betrayal, and bad decisions in season two.”<\/p>\n

Ahead of season 1 being released, Goodhart spoke with us for The Radio Times Writers’ Room<\/a>, and said that while she had intended to get “almost as far as I can”<\/a> in exploring the premise in one season, she did always know she could write a second season, and that she had a firm idea in mind for it.<\/p>\n

However, fans shouldn’t get their hopes too high about further seasons beyond this second run, as Goodhart said she’s “not sure that there’d be more” than two seasons worth of story.<\/p>\n
