{"id":606061,"date":"2026-08-27T09:26:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T09:26:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/606061\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T09:26:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T09:26:10","slug":"honest-ahanor-chelsea-in-talks-to-sign-atalanta-and-italy-defender","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/606061\/","title":{"rendered":"Honest Ahanor: Chelsea in talks to sign Atalanta and Italy defender"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/teams\/chelsea\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chelsea<\/a> are in talks to sign Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Blues expressed an interest in the 18-year-old Italian when they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/crkvlv6myreo\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signed right-back Marco Palestra<\/a> from the Serie A side in July. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">BBC Sport has been told Atalanta are willing to sell Ahanor if their 40m euro (\u00a334.3m) valuation is met. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Ahanor, who mainly plays at left-back, joined Atalanta from Genoa on a three-year deal last summer for a reported fee of 16m euros, plus 4m euros in add-ons. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He made 28 appearances in Serie A for Atalanta last season, establishing himself as a regular starter for the Italian club. He also made his Champions League debut in a 2-1 win against Club Brugge in September. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In May, he was called up by Italy for friendly matches against Luxembourg and Greece. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/teams\/chelsea\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chelsea<\/a> manager Xabi Alonso has been building his squad since taking over at Stamford Bridge in July, signing England midfielder Morgan Rogers from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/teams\/aston-villa\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aston Villa<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/cy8enwn2xq4o\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">for a club record \u00a3117m<\/a>, and adding experienced Premier League players <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/cly5g1vy3p3o\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Danny Welbeck<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/c62qnnrzqk5o\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jordan Henderson. <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/teams\/chelsea\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chelsea<\/a> face <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/teams\/brighton-and-hove-albion\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brighton<\/a> at home in the Premier league on Sunday after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/live\/cqp8xg4jy4r3t\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">beating Fulham 3-2<\/a> in their opening match of the season on Monday. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Chelsea are in talks to sign Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor.
