The F\u00f3rsa trade union, which represents workers at the Oberstown Children Detention Campus, has said an agreement has been reached to resolve a dispute over staffing levels at the centre.<\/p>\n
The sides met at the Workplace Relations Commission yesterday and the talks concluded just after midnight.<\/p>\n
F\u00f3rsa said a pathway has now been agreed to resolve outstanding issues.<\/p>\n
The union will ballot members at Oberstown on a set of proposals today and recommend a yes vote.<\/p>\n
Subject to the outcome of the ballot, all industrial action will be paused.<\/p>\n
Members of the F\u00f3rsa trade union employed at the campus staged a 12-hour strike on Tuesday and were planning to hold a 48-hour strike from next Monday.<\/p>\n
“Our progress today was clearly helped by a demonstration of the political will required to move this difficult dispute forward,” said F\u00f3rsa National Secretary Hazel Nolan.<\/p>\n
“A clear roadmap has now been agreed, providing a basis for addressing the remaining matters in a structured and time-bound way,” Ms Nolan said.<\/p>\n
F\u00f3rsa acknowledged the role of the Department of Children, Disability and Equality (DCDE) and the WRC in facilitating the discussions.<\/p>\n
Oberstown had warned that if next week’s strike goes ahead it would create serious and unacceptable risks for the rights and welfare of young people, as well as for the staff remaining on campus.<\/p>\n
