Pop star Jade (formerly of Little Mix) was due on stage at 6pm, but this was pushed back by 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Later, in a typically Irish change of scene the sun came out for Jade\u2019s set.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\" xml:lang=\"en\">The heavens have opened at EP. <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/thejournal_ie?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">@thejournal_ie<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/tlLbBAsLv9\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/tlLbBAsLv9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Valerie Flynn (@valerie_flynn) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/valerie_flynn\/status\/2093368786766180710?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">August 28, 2026<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Up-and-coming Irish noise rock band Gurriers over in the Electric Arena (the next biggest stage) are also delayed but only by 15 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>After a roll of thunder around 5pm, a torrential downpour sent festival-goers slipping and sliding across the muddy ground this afternoon for shelter under trees, in tents \u2013 and even in the portaloos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hid in the cubicles \u2013 but we were drowned on the way over to them,\u201d laughed Cameron Lennon from Athy after the shower had passed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787951771_404_.JPEG\"  alt=\"IMG_0066\" class=\"alignnone inline-image\" \/><br \/>\n            Cameron Lennon and Kennedy Nolan                    Valerie Flynn \/ The Journal<\/p>\n<p>    Valerie Flynn \/ The Journal \/ The Journal\n<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy Nolan said she\u2019s here to see singer songwriters Zara Larsson and Lewis Capaldi \u2013 whatever the weather.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t care if it rains. I\u2019ll go home with pneumonia to get to the two of them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Because they\u2019re local, Lennon and Nolan are in the lucky position of being able to travel home tonight.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787951772_904_.JPEG\"  alt=\"IMG_0070\" class=\"alignnone inline-image\" \/><br \/>\n            The main arena is already pretty messy &#8211; and there are three nights to go.\n<\/p>\n<p>Luck was on Constance Vance\u2019s side too \u2013 she pitched her tent this afternoon in glorious sunshine.<\/p>\n<p>It definitely hasn\u2019t been a case of the early bird catching the worm this year, as many festival-goers who availed of early entry on Thursday evening (for a fee) had to get walk in from the car and coach parks and set up camp in the rain.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787951773_370_.JPEG\"  alt=\"IMG_0076\" class=\"alignnone inline-image\" \/><br \/>\n            Constance Vance (right)                    Valerie Flynn \/ The Journal<\/p>\n<p>    Valerie Flynn \/ The Journal \/ The Journal\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s Ireland \u2013 we\u2019re going to have rain,\u201d says Vance.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the joys of Irish people is we do it no matter the weather.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook, it\u2019s dry right now. And it\u2019s only a bit of rain. There was only a bit of drizzle when they arrived at 2pm yesterday. Eccles reckons it\u2019s always better to arrive a bit early \u2013 you can figure out where is going to get muddy. But Eccles and Reilly didn\u2019t need to worry about that too much.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re glamping,\u201d says Eccles. \u201cIt\u2019s so nice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By this morning, paths in the main campsites were very muddy. At least 100 people were queueing for a tent offering access to hairdryers and plugs for hair straighteners and curlers when The Journal passed by at around noon.<\/p>\n<p>The main arena, especially the area around the main stage, is also fairly soft underfoot already \u2013 and there are three nights of tramping welly boots to come.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the moment, more rain is forecast for tomorrow and Sunday \u2013 but spirits are high in Stradbally as the festival gets into the swing this evening.
