If you\u2019ve ever felt like your relationship with veteran filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan was getting distant of late\u2014a little stilted, or full of misconceptions, or just generally not where you want your personal walk with the executive producer of Devil<\/a>\u00a0to be\u2014then we have some great news for you: Shayamalan is now on YouTube, and he\u2019s there in an effort to try to deepen his relationship with you, the viewer.<\/p>\n

This is per the first, and for now only, video to have been added to Shyamalan\u2019s new personal account, a brief movie in which Shyamalan makes one of his famous cameos\u2014classic Night!\u2014as himself, a filmmaker who actually seems extremely nervous to be on YouTube. \u201cWhat I hope it is is an opportunity to reflect, get to know each other, deepen the relationship,\u201d Shyamalan says of this initial outing on social media. Noting that he\u2019s \u201cscared\u201d and interested in \u201cthe messiness of it all,\u201d Shyamalan seems to be genuinely reckoning with the fact that his back-and-forth with the moviegoing public has not always been entirely positive over the decades. \u201cThirty years making movies, and I want to kind of undo it a little bit. Undo whatever stigmas are in my head, or in anybody\u2019s head.\u201d (He does not then go on to name any specific\u00a0stigmas you might have about his films kicking around in your personal noggin, presumably because comments sections across the internet are already filled to the brim with those.)<\/p>\n

It is, honestly, pretty engaging in its vulnerability, as Shyamalan expresses his worry that this kind of direct communication might \u201cbreak\u201d something important to him. (It also includes a lot of footage of his incredibly swanky looking office and the little bench he sits on when he\u2019s not \u201cfeeling great\u201d\u2014\u201dwhich is often\u201d\u2014while looking at a tree he planted after his dad died earlier this year.) Shyamalan noted in the comments for the video that he intends to post something new to the channel on Sunday, August 30.<\/p>\n

Anyway, it took maybe one hour for someone to comment \u201cWhat a twist!\u201d on this thing, so we\u2019re guessing you might want to get this version of direct access to Shyamalan while the gettin\u2019s good.<\/p>\n
