{"id":608103,"date":"2026-08-29T08:16:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-29T08:16:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/608103\/"},"modified":"2026-08-29T08:16:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-29T08:16:12","slug":"former-national-transport-authority-chief-was-underpaid-by-e50000-in-total-over-several-years-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/608103\/","title":{"rendered":"Former National Transport Authority chief was underpaid by \u20ac50,000 in total over several years \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The former head of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/national-transport-authority\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/national-transport-authority\/\">National Transport Authority<\/a> (NTA) was underpaid by about \u20ac50,000 in total over several years, a note in the agency\u2019s accounts indicates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The shortfall was subsequently rectified in 2024 with the agreement of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/department-of-transport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/department-of-transport\">Department of Transport<\/a>; it has emerged in results for last year filed recently.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The annual financial statement for last year says that Anne Graham retired as chief executive of the authority on December 15th, 2024. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cA multiannual discrepancy accumulating to \u20ac55,033 concerning the then chief executive remuneration scale was identified and rectified with the approval of the Department of Transport in 2024,\u201d the report states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Graham originally came to the authority in 2019. Previously, she had been on secondment from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-city-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-city-council\/\">Dublin City Council<\/a>. The agency\u2019s accounts for 2019 show she received \u20ac188,000 in that year, comprising \u20ac111,000 in basic pay and \u20ac77,000 in allowances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It is understood that several years later the underpayment was identified and this was subsequently addressed with the agreement of the parent department.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In a statement to The Irish Times, the authority said: \u201cA discrepancy was identified in relation to the pay scale applied to the former chief executive\u2019s appointment, specifically regarding the personal pension contribution (PPC) and non-personal pension contribution salary scales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe Department of Transport reviewed the appointment and subsequently approved an amendment to the PPC scale, which was then approved by the National Transport Authority board.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe payment referenced relates to arrears due to the former CEO to align her remuneration with the approved rate.
