A woman who claimed her husband \u201cdoesn\u2019t believe\u201d in their child\u2019s eating disorder, and did not allow her to vaccinate their children during the Covid-19 pandemic, has been granted a protection order.<\/p>\n
The woman sought the emergency order at the Dublin District Family Court on Friday, telling Judge John Brennan she feels \u201cunsafe\u201d at home with her husband.<\/p>\n
The couple \u201cnearly lost\u201d their child to anorexia, she said, with Brennan hearing the man \u201cdoesn\u2019t believe anorexia is a mental illness\u201d and blamed their child for \u201cdestroying the family\u201d.<\/p>\n
The woman said her husband believed their child \u201cdeliberately stopped eating\u201d and that he has put the child \u201cthrough hell\u201d.<\/p>\n
She said her husband had been \u201cthreatening\u201d in the past, including on one occasion after she spent about \u20ac4 from their joint account on a hot chocolate for their child. She said she rarely sees her husband eat and that he had lost a significant amount of weight.<\/p>\n
Describing the years of the Covid-19 pandemic as \u201chorrendous\u201d, she said she believed she was a victim of coercive control, alleging she was told who she could or could not see at the time.<\/p>\n
She said her husband was \u201cdefiant\u201d against government regulations during the pandemic and that she \u201cwasn\u2019t allowed\u201d to have her children vaccinated.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t describe how horrific it was during that time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe started up again about a week ago saying it\u2019s \u2018all going to come out soon\u2019 about the conspiracy, about the Covid lockdowns, that it was all fake.\u201d<\/p>\n
She added: \u201cIt\u2019s very sad; I think my husband\u2019s not well.\u201d <\/p>\n
The woman said she feels \u201cunsafe\u201d at home with her husband, describing a \u201ctenseness\u201d, while her younger child had \u201cpleaded\u201d with her to \u201cget him to leave\u201d.<\/p>\n
Brennan granted a protection order on an ex parte (one side represented only) basis. The temporary order, which could see the man arrested should he put the woman in fear for her safety, will remain in place until a full hearing on the matter at a later date.<\/p>\n
The woman was one of several people to seek such orders on Friday, some of whom alleged sexual assault, threats to their life and partners \u201cwithholding\u201d milk from their baby during arguments.<\/p>\n
In one case, a woman was granted a protection order against her former partner after the judge heard he allegedly \u201cjumped\u201d on top of and \u201cstrangled\u201d her.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was sitting on top of my chest and he had his hands around my neck and he was choking me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The incident happened several days prior, the woman alleged, adding that it was after they had gone to a pub for an event.<\/p>\n
\u201cI told him he was going to kill me if he didn\u2019t stop and he said: \u2018Yeah, I know\u2019,\u201d she told the judge.<\/p>\n
The woman added that the man subsequently \u201cpunched\u201d her in the face with a closed fist and kicked her \u201ctwo or three times in the head and in the side\u201d.<\/p>\n
She suffered a fractured nose and had \u201cstrangle marks\u201d on her neck, she said, adding that she was concerned things might escalate as she had reported the alleged assault to garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s told me he\u2019s going to destroy my life,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just been an absolute nightmare. I haven\u2019t even had time to process everything because I\u2019ve been in the hospital,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The judge said he was satisfied that a protection order was necessary for the woman\u2019s safety, granting an emergency order until a full hearing at a later date.<\/p>\n
