Popular Steve Perry<\/a> lookalike Hugo Valenti joined Journey<\/a> for a song during their show Saturday night in Japan.<\/p>\n

The inaugural Greatest Rock event in Fukuomo – which also included a show by Night Ranger<\/a> \u2013 featured a total of five singers during Journey\u2019s 20-song performance.<\/p>\n

Arnel Pineda<\/a> led most of the set, with drummer Deen Castronovo<\/a> taking over for \u201cLights\u201d and \u201cAnytime,\u201d assisted by Jonathan Cain<\/a> on the latter. Keyboardist Jason Derlatka delivered \u201cOf a Lifetime\u201d and \u201cSuzanne.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the most talked-about moment came when Cain introduced Valenti, whose voice is also similar to that of Perry \u2013 and who once auditioned to replace the classic-era singer.<\/p>\n

As you can see from this YouTube short from Christia McGhee<\/a>, Valenti has the look and sound of Perry down cold.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve got a special treat for you tonight,\u201d Cain said while he played a piano intro for “Faithfully.” \u201cHe\u2019s comin\u2019 all the way from New Jersey to visit Japan, and I thought we\u2019d have him sing a song for you tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Predictably, social media comments contained a range of opinions, notably suggesting that some people at the concert believed they were witnessing a reunion with Perry himself<\/a>. Some suggested that Valenti\u2019s performance improved towards the middle and end of the song.<\/p>\n

Some launched into discussions about the show being a form of test for a future lineup without Pineda<\/a>, who himself once performed a Journey tribute show<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Valenti fronts Hugo: The Ultimate Journey Tribute<\/a>. His website reports: \u201cHis uncanny resemblance \u2013 both in voice and appearance \u2013 to Steve Perry is no coincidence. In fact, when Hugo auditioned to take the famed frontman\u2019s place, he was told he looked too much like Perry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Journey\u2019s Final Frontier Tour<\/a> \u2013 billed as their farewell road trip<\/a> \u2013 returns to North America on Sept. 12 and is currently scheduled through Nov. 28.<\/p>\n
