Mayo’s All-Ireland-winning footballers joined The Saw Doctors on stage at Electric Picnic on Sunday evening for a rousing rendition of The Green and Red of Mayo.

Captain Jack Coyne was among 13 Mayo players who took to the Main Stage during the Tuam band’s set, just over a month after the county ended its 75-year wait for the Sam Maguire Cup.

Donnacha McHugh, Kobe McDonald, Coyne, Eoin McGreal, Jordan Flynn, Fenton Kelly, Matthew Ruane, Darragh Beirne, Bob Tuohy, Frank Irwin, David McBrien, Cian McHale and Dylan Thornton joined the band for the Mayo anthem.

There was some more Mayo representation on stage too, with Fontaines D.C. bassist Conor Deegan and drummer Tom Coll joining in. Both have roots in the Castlebar area and will be back on the Main Stage later on Sunday night when Fontaines D.C. headline the final night of Electric Picnic.

Mayo defeated Kerry 1-20 to 1-17 at Croke Park on 26 July to win their first All-Ireland senior football title since 1951.

The Green and Red of Mayo, written by Saw Doctors members Leo Moran and Davy Carton, provided the soundtrack to the celebrations and subsequently reached number one on both the Irish Spotify and iTunes charts.

Mayo’s All-Ireland-winning footballers joined The Saw Doctors on stage at Electric Picnic on Sunday evening for a rousing…

[8
93,61,60
post-609529","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-entertainment","tag-entertainment","tag-ie","tag-ireland
["GET
