The September campaign will bring together prostate cancer education, awareness resources, community engagement, and support for men and families across the country. This year\u2019s focus recognizes that prostate cancer extends beyond the individual diagnosed, often becoming a shared journey for spouses, partners, families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and others who provide care and support.<\/p>\n

As one of MHN\u2019s three major annual awareness periods<\/a>, Prostate Cancer Awareness Month provides an opportunity to reach men before diagnosis, support those currently facing prostate cancer, recognize survivors, and acknowledge the families and caregivers who walk alongside them.<\/p>\n

The campaign also builds on MHN\u2019s broader 2026 \u201cPartners in Care\u201d initiative, emphasizing the importance of connection and support throughout men\u2019s health. For Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, that message follows the prostate cancer journey itself:<\/p>\n

Prostate Cancer Remains a Major Men\u2019s Health Concern

\nProstate cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers among men in the United States, with approximately 1 in 8 men diagnosed during his lifetime.<\/p>\n

Risk increases with age and family history, while Black men face higher incidence and mortality rates. Prostate cancer can also develop without noticeable symptoms, particularly in its earlier stages.<\/p>\n

These realities make awareness and healthcare engagement important before a diagnosis. MHN encourages men to know their family health history, understand their individual risk, maintain regular healthcare visits, and talk with a healthcare provider about prostate health and screening.

\nFor the many men who are diagnosed, prostate cancer can become a long-term health journey. <\/p>\n

Some prostate cancers grow slowly, while others are more aggressive, and treatment and follow-up care vary depending on the individual and the characteristics of the cancer.<\/p>\n

Many men live for years or decades after diagnosis, making treatment, recovery, survivorship, quality of life, and long-term health important parts of prostate cancer care.<\/p>\n

\nMHN\u2019s 2026 campaign expands the conversation beyond awareness and screening to recognize what happens after a man hears the words \u201cprostate cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n

A diagnosis can bring questions about treatment options, potential side effects, recovery, work, relationships, sexual and urinary health, emotional well-being, and long-term health. Men may need to process significant amounts of information and make important healthcare decisions in a relatively short period of time.<\/p>\n

They often do not make those decisions alone.<\/p>\n

Partners, family members, friends, caregivers, and healthcare professionals may attend appointments, help understand treatment information, provide transportation, manage responsibilities at home, offer emotional support, and help men adjust to changes during treatment and recovery.<\/p>\n

Caregivers and loved ones are also affected. Prostate cancer can change family routines, responsibilities, relationships, and daily life. Supporting the people surrounding a man with prostate cancer is therefore an important part of supporting the man himself.<\/p>\n

The campaign carries that focus through survivorship as well. Follow-up care, monitoring, treatment side effects, sexual and urinary health, emotional well-being, relationships, and overall wellness may remain important long after initial treatment.<\/p>\n

\nThroughout September, MHN encourages individuals, families, employers, healthcare organizations, community groups, faith communities, advocates, and other partners to participate in the campaign.<\/p>\n

Ways to support Prostate Cancer Awareness Month include:

The toolkit provides ready-to-use information and resources covering prostate cancer awareness, the prostate cancer journey, support for families and caregivers, community engagement, Wear Blue activities, social media, proclamation language, newsletter and blog content, and other materials organizations can use throughout September.<\/p>\n

The resources are designed to make participation accessible for organizations of all sizes and help bring prostate cancer education and support into workplaces, neighborhoods, healthcare settings, faith communities, and other places where men and families gather.<\/p>\n

MHN also encourages organizations and individuals to use September as an opportunity to recognize prostate cancer survivors and caregivers, share their experiences when appropriate, and help connect men and families with trusted information and resources.<\/p>\n
