For someone apparently super angry that a major Hollywood film has employed a handsome, acclaimed actor to portray him, Chris Hansen sure likes giving Primetime free publicity. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight<\/a>, the guy who made his fame engineering televised sting operations where he ostentatiously surprised suspected criminals states that, based on the trailer at least, star Robert Pattinson\u2019s portrayal of him is \u201coverly dramatic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hansen, who refused producer A24\u2019s offer to screen the Lance Oppenheim-directed film in full after he alleges he was asked to sign over the rights to his \u201clife, image, and brand\u201d via an NDA, does concede that Pattinson\u2019s is a \u201cpretty good imitation.\u201d He also notes that his family seems to dig the Mickey 17<\/a> actor\u2019s version of him, while doubling down on his protests that Pattinson\u2019s typically high-strung performance in the trailer includes him \u201csaying things I never said and doing things I never did, and that\u2019s not who I am.\u201d As the subject of a recent eye-opening documentary about media ethics<\/a> concludes, \u201cI\u2019m a nice guy, except when it comes to criminals and predators.\u201d<\/p>\n

To Catch A Predator, despite its enormous ratings success and position as cultural touchstone (just ask Dennis Duffy<\/a>), has undergone a serious reappraisal in the years since its 2008 cancellation following the suicide of Texas assistant district attorney Bill Conradt<\/a>, who\u2019d been targeted by one of Hansen\u2019s online stings, exchanging explicit materials with someone he thought was an underage boy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Primetime\u2018s exploration of the controversial nature of Hansen\u2019s crusade to capture alleged pedophiles (while getting very famous himself) has done nothing to quell Hansen\u2019s quest for the spotlight.
