HUNTSVILLE, Ala. \u2014 The Huntsville Museum of Art will bring the work of acclaimed artist and graphic novelist Miles Hyman to Huntsville this fall with a new exhibition exploring the connection between art, film and literature.<\/p>\n
\u201cMiles Hyman: Cinematic Visions\u201d will run from\u00a0Sept. 18, 2026, through Feb. 28, 2027, at the Huntsville Museum of Art.<\/p>\n

The exhibition features a selection of Hyman\u2019s paintings and drawings. His work often blends the visual styles of cinema, literature and fine art, with scenes that use light, shadow and everyday settings to create a sense of mystery.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hosted an exhibition of Miles\u2019 artwork in Vermont in 2006, and I am pleased to introduce his remarkable artistic talent to the Huntsville audience,\u201d said Christopher Madkour, executive director of the Huntsville Museum of Art. \u201cCinematic Visions offers our visitors an opportunity to experience the unique way Miles Hyman transforms ordinary moments into compelling visual narratives. His work draws us in with mystery and atmosphere, but it is what we imagine beyond the frame that makes these works so engaging.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hyman is also known for bringing literary stories to life through his artwork. Among his projects is the authorized full-color graphic novel adaptation of\u00a0\u201cThe Lottery,\u201d the famous 1948 short story written by his grandmother, author Shirley Jackson.<\/p>\n
Published in 2016, the graphic novel adaptation uses Hyman\u2019s distinctive style to interpret Jackson\u2019s story.<\/p>\n
Rather than simply illustrating existing stories, Hyman\u2019s artwork often leaves room for viewers to create their own interpretations. His scenes may capture a moment just before something happens or immediately afterward, creating a feeling of anticipation.<\/p>\n
\u201cEach painting can feel like a still from a film or a page from a novel,\u201d said Natalie Mault Mead, chief curator of the Huntsville Museum of Art. \u201cHyman gives us just enough information to enter the scene, then leaves space for our imagination to take over. That sense of mystery is central to the experience of the exhibition.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nOpening event <\/p>\n
Hyman will appear at an\u00a0opening lecture and reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17.<\/p>\n
He will discuss his work and the ideas behind \u201cCinematic Visions,\u201d followed by a book signing and reception.<\/p>\n
Admission is\u00a0free for museum members and\u00a0$25 for nonmembers.<\/p>\n
