A Las Vegas jury found an ex-gang leader guilty of murder in a case accusing him of masterminding the drive-by killing of legendary hip-hop artist Tupac Shakur, bringing \u2060a decades-old cold case to a close.<\/p>\n
Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis, 63, was charged in Nevada’s Clark County with a single count of murder using a deadly weapon. He had pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n
Davis was accused of leading a group of men to kill Mr Shakur, 25, who was one of rap’s most commercially successful and influential artists, in retaliation for the beating of Davis’ nephew.<\/p>\n
Police had said they long suspected Davis but did not have enough evidence to charge him until he went public \u200cwith his story in media \u2060appearances and a memoir.<\/p>\n
Davis\u2019 lawyer said his client’s words were mere bravado and could not be corroborated by other evidence.<\/p>\n
The trial began on 17 August.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors played hours of recorded conversations in which Davis said \u200che was enraged after Mr Shakur and his entourage beat up Davis\u2019 nephew at a Las Vegas casino on 7 September 1996.<\/p>\n
Davis and three \u2060other men, including his nephew, went looking for Mr Shakur and record label executive Marion ‘Suge’ Knight \u200cin a white Cadillac on the night of the beating, he \u2060said.<\/p>\n
Davis said he \u200cpassed a gun to the back seat, and when they found Knight and Mr Shakur\u2019s car, one of the two men in the back opened fire.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors have not named the shooter, and the three other men who were \u2060in the car have since died.<\/p>\n
Under Nevada law, Davis can be charged with murder even though \u2060he did not pull the trigger.<\/p>\n
Davis was a leader of the Southside Compton Crips, a Los Angeles-area street gang that feuded with rival gang Mob Piru, which was associated with Mr Shakur and his record label Death Row Records.<\/p>\n
