A scuffle broke out between protestors and Garda\u00ed<\/a> in Dublin on Monday as the Deputy Secretary General of NATO<\/a> visited the capital.<\/p>\n

Members of Anti Imperialist Action Ireland (AIA) protested outside the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) at around lunchtime.<\/p>\n

They held signs saying \u201cboots off Irish soil\u201d and \u201cno to NATO\u201d as Deputy Secretary General of NATO Radmila Shekerinska was due to speak at an event in the building.<\/p>\n

The group publicised the protest on social media<\/a>, sharing a photo of a soldier holding a rifle with an Irish flag on its hat.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, it wrote: \u201cJoin the anti-NATO protest! Tomorrow, Monday 31st, at 2.30 pm, the Institute of International and European Affairs will host Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Radmila Shekerinska.<\/p>\n

“Alongside European Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas and British politician David Milliband, Shekerinska will attend informal meetings on defence and foreign affairs in Wicklow this week.\u201d<\/p>\n

The group also shared a video last Saturday of two people in dark clothing, spray painting a door in red writing with the words \u201cNo to Nato\u201d.<\/p>\n

It captioned the clip: \u201cYesterday evening, members of Anti Imperialist Action spray-painted the entrance of the IIEA building in Dublin that is to host the NATO Deputy Secretary General on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe IIEA, is a pro-EU thinktank that heavily promotes NATO and militarisation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Shekerinska is in Ireland for two days to take part in the public discussion and attend an informal meeting of EU defence ministers in Wicklow<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The discussion at the IIEA was in conversation with the think tank\u2019s director general, Dr Orlaigh Quinn.<\/p>\n

In an email outlining the event, she wrote: \u201cI will be chairing the discussion, and I am very much looking forward to hearing Ms Shekerinska\u2019s valuable insights on policy making, consensus building and transatlantic relations.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Garda press office has been contacted for comment.<\/p>\n
