During Blue Rodeo\u2019s performance Saturday at the RBC Amphitheater \u2014 which sits directly on Lake Ontario\u2019s waterfront in Toronto \u2014 lead singer Greg Keelor took a moment to speak to the crowd before playing the band\u2019s 1993 hit \u201cHasn\u2019t Hit Me Yet,\u201d which features a lyric about the massive lake on the U.S.-Canada border.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cAt the end of this song, there’s a mention of a lake. It’s a lake right behind us right there,\u201d Keelor told the screaming audience, according to a YouTube livestream<\/a> of the performance.<\/p>\n He went on to say that the lake\u2019s name has \u201cbecome a little controversial,\u201d referring to Trump\u2019s recent executive order to rename the Great Lake <\/a>amid the ongoing trade war between Canada and the U.S.<\/p>\n \u201cI would just like you to sing tonight with full authority and ownership,\u201d Keelor told the crowd. \u201cAnd we’ll sing this one for the shining waters that have been there long before any of us were ever here.\u201d<\/p>\n Fans obliged, and footage of the moment later shared on social media showed thousands of Canadians gleefully shouting \u201cLake Ontario\u201d at the end of the song, while onstage screens behind the band showed a map of the area with the lake\u2019s original name.<\/p>\n After the song, band member Jim Cuddy told the audience: \u201cThat was chilling, folks. We are who we are, right? F*** them.\u201d<\/p>\n The White House did not return The Independent\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n Blue Rodeo, formed by Keelor and Cuddy in 1984, is one of Canada\u2019s most beloved bands, with 12 Juno Award wins and a place in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
