Cody Gakpo reportedly held \u2018clear the air\u2019 talks with the Liverpool hierarchy after they rebuffed an attempt by Manchester City to sign the winger.<\/p>\n

In the final 24 hours of the summer transfer window, the Reds rejected an offer of up to \u00a380m<\/a> from the Etihad Stadium after the Netherlands international had purportedly decided to join Enzo Maresca\u2019s side.<\/p>\n

It had been thought that the 27-year-old would be allowed to leave if his current club signed another wide forward after the marquee addition of Bradley Barcola, but ultimately that didn\u2019t transpire and the Dutchman remains at Anfield.<\/p>\n

How has Gakpo taken Liverpool\u2019s decision?<\/p>\n

On Tuesday,\u00a0Eindhovens Dagblad<\/a> reported that Gakpo had spoken with Liverpool chiefs to \u2018clear the air\u2019 after they turned down the offer from Man City, with the collapse of the deal seemingly coming as a \u2018complete surprise\u2019.<\/p>\n

While the report mentioned that the winger \u2018will have to quickly get over the disappointment of a missed transfer\u2019, another outlet has indicated that he\u2019s taken the developments in a mature fashion.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0TEAMtalk<\/a>, the 27-year-old\u2019s response \u2018was a positive one\u2019 as he understood Liverpool\u2019s reasons for blocking the transfer, and our number 18 is set to \u2018continue giving his all\u2019 for Andoni Iraola\u2019s side.<\/p>\n

Gakpo partook in a gym session with his teammates<\/a> at the AXA Training Centre yesterday and was \u2018reported to be in good spirits\u2019, and he\u2019ll be available for selection for our game against Ipswich on Friday.<\/p>\n

Gakpo shows maturity over Liverpool blocking Man City move<\/p>\n

That response from the Dutchman highlights why Liverpool made the right decision not to let him leave for Man City in the final 24 hours of the transfer window.<\/p>\n

Allowing him to join a direct domestical rival would\u2019ve infuriated the fan base, especially amid the winger\u2019s strong start to the season, with a goal and an assist to his name after the first two Premier League games.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s been many stories in the past of players sulking and \u2018downing tools\u2019 after being deprived of a desired transfer, but it seems that Gakpo is professional enough to put that behind him and honour his commitment to the Reds by putting in maximum effort on the pitch.<\/p>\n

The proof of that will become apparent in his performances over the next few weeks \u2013 if he continues in the same vein with which he\u2019s started the campaign, it\u2019d show that the 27-year-old remains all-in at Anfield, which can only be good news for Iraola and the fans.<\/p>\n
