{"id":613198,"date":"2026-09-03T13:18:22","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T13:18:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/613198\/"},"modified":"2026-09-03T13:18:22","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T13:18:22","slug":"ireland-international-joins-belgian-giants-in-another-exciting-european-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/613198\/","title":{"rendered":"Ireland international joins Belgian Giants in another exciting European move"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The transfer window may be shut for the Premier League and much of Europe, but there are still several countries who are able to make transfers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of these is Belgium, and Wednesday saw a very interesting move for Ireland centre-back Andrew Omobamidele. The 10-capped Ireland international has had an interesting career to date since leaving Norwich in 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He had an ill-fated spell at Nottingham Forest, but in January last year he made the move to exciting French outfit Strasbourg, initially on loan before signing permanently in the summer of 2025.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/GettyImages-2292652373.jpg\" alt=\"GettyImages 2292652373\" class=\"wp-image-1808088\"  \/>Andrew Omobamidele. Pic: Benjamin Faes\/Eurasia Sport Images\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He\u2019s made 54 appearances for the French side, captaining the side on several occasions, including last week\u2019s Ligue 1 game against RC Lens. But now the 24-year-old is on the move again to another European side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Leixlip native has now joined Belgian giants Anderlecht on a season-long loan. Anderlecht are 34-time Belgian league winners as well as one-time UEFA Cup winners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The likes of Vincent Kompany, Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans have come through the club\u2019s ranks.
