{"id":613888,"date":"2026-09-04T05:08:17","date_gmt":"2026-09-04T05:08:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/613888\/"},"modified":"2026-09-04T05:08:17","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T05:08:17","slug":"arnold-schwarzeneggers-weakness-first-rule-for-more-muscle-and-his-3-block-workout-to-test-yourself","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/613888\/","title":{"rendered":"Arnold Schwarzenegger\u2019s \u2018Weakness First\u2019 Rule for More Muscle \u2013 and His 3-Block Workout to Test Yourself"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"4\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/weight-loss\/a73227622\/arnold-schwarzenegger-fat-loss-rules\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/weight-loss\/a73227622\/arnold-schwarzenegger-fat-loss-rules\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Arnold Schwarzenegger\" data-node-id=\"4.0\" class=\"body-link css-10fnnmt emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Arnold Schwarzenegger<\/a> may have built his physique with plenty of heavy lifting, but his latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/workouts\/\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/workouts\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"workout\" data-node-id=\"4.2\" class=\"body-link css-10fnnmt emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">workout<\/a> comes with a slightly different challenge: can you stop skipping the exercises you&#8217;re weakest at?<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"9\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">While exercise swaps can be useful when equipment isn&#8217;t available or you&#8217;re working around an injury, consistently dodging certain movements could mean neglecting areas that would benefit from more attention.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"13\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">In Schwarzenegger&#8217;s latest <a href=\"https:\/\/arnoldspumpclub.com\/blogs\/newsletter\/how-to-stop-procrastinating-steps\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/arnoldspumpclub.com\/blogs\/newsletter\/how-to-stop-procrastinating-steps\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Pump Club\" data-node-id=\"13.1.0\" class=\"body-link css-10fnnmt emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pump Club<\/a> newsletter, he says, &#8216;While it\u2019s easy to choose the exercises where you\u2019re strong, focusing on where you&#8217;re weak is exactly what you need to get better and see more impressive changes.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"18\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">The resulting full-body workout combines squats, presses, pull-ups, split squats, deadlifts and rows across three blocks, with two different rep targets allowing you to push the load on your second round.<\/p>\n<p>The Workout<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"24\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">The workout is split into three blocks. Perform the exercises in each block back-to-back with as little rest as possible. Once you&#8217;ve completed all exercises, rest for two minutes and repeat the block for a second round before moving on.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"28\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Before beginning, complete one or two warm-up sets using around 50-60% of the weight you intend to use for your first working set.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"33\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">For weighted exercises, you&#8217;ll perform 10 reps during the first round before increasing the weight and completing five reps during the second.<\/p>\n<p>Block 1Barbell Front Squat: 10 reps, 5 repsPull-Ups: max reps on both setsIncline Dumbbell Chest Press: 10 reps, 5 reps<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"39\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Rest two minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Block 2Dumbbell Rear-Foot Elevated Split Squat (right leg): 10 reps, 5 repsDumbbell Rear-Foot Elevated Split Squat (left leg): 10 reps, 5 repsHanging Leg Raise: 12 reps, 12 reps<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"45\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Rest two minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Block 3Barbell Stiff-Leg Deadlift: 10 reps, 5 repsBarbell Bent-Over Row: 10 reps, 5 reps<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"51\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Rest two minutes.<\/p>\n<p>How to Do the Moves<img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"barbell front squat\" title=\"barbell front squat\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1369\" height=\"907\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/barbell-front-squat-66e964666103e.jpg\" class=\"css-0 e1ddfba50\"\/>Unrack the bar in the front position and take a few small steps back. Lock your core and keep your chest proud with your elbows in line with your shoulders. Keep the barbell over your mid-foot and sink your hips into a squat, with your thighs hitting parallel or lower. Lift your feet from the floor, hanging freely with straight arms. Pull yourself up by flexing your elbows while pinching your shoulder blades together. Lower the weights towards your upper chest, keeping your elbows at roughly a 45-degree angle from your body. Pause before pressing the dumbbells back up explosively.<img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"walking lunges\" title=\"walking lunges\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1696\" height=\"1116\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/bulgarian-splt-squat-1589968734.jpg\" class=\"css-0 e1ddfba50\"\/>Stand a couple of feet in front of a bench, facing away, holding a dumbbell in each hand. Place one foot on the bench behind you and keep your hips square. Bend your front knee and lower your back knee towards the floor. Push through your front foot to return to standing. Keeping your legs as straight as possible, contract your abs to lift your legs out in front of you until they&#8217;re roughly parallel with the floor. Lower slowly back to the starting position without swinging and repeat.Barbell Stiff-Leg Deadlift<img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"stiff legged deadlift\" title=\"stiff legged deadlift\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1256\" height=\"800\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/stiff-legged-deadlift.jpg\" class=\"css-0 e1ddfba50\"\/>Stand tall with your feet underneath your hips and hold a barbell in front of your thighs. With only a slight bend in your knees, push your hips back and hinge forwards, lowering the bar close to your legs. Once you feel a strong stretch through your hamstrings, drive your hips forwards to return to standing.<img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"barbell row\" title=\"barbell row\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/hanging-barbell-row-653f97af0fa28.png\" class=\"css-0 e1ddfba50\"\/>Hold a barbell slightly wider than shoulder-width and hinge at your hips until your torso is almost parallel to the floor. Keep your back flat and core braced. Row the bar towards your hips, squeezing your shoulder blades together at the top.
