Beyonc\u00e9 is celebrating her birthday with a major milestone from her music career. On September 4, the singer marked 20 years of her second studio album, B\u2019Day, with a newly remastered 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. Originally released on September 4, 2006, the album has now returned with remastered music and visuals, Spanish-language recordings, previously released bonus material and several rare or previously unheard tracks.<\/p>\n
The expanded release also brings together some notable collaborations such as new material featuring Pharrell and Maluma, along with a Spanish recording featuring vocals from the late Selena Quintanilla.<\/p>\n
Beyonc\u00e9 On 20 Years Of B\u2019Day<\/p>\n
B\u2019Day arrived during an important period in Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s career and included songs such as D\u00e9j\u00e0 Vu, Get Me Bodied, Irreplaceable, Ring the Alarm and Listen. Two decades later, the singer has revisited the album and its original sound while preparing the expanded anniversary release.<\/p>\n

Speaking in a press release shared with Variety, Beyonc\u00e9 explained what she wanted to achieve when she was making the album.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wanted the album to be big, percussive, hard, up-tempo, and energized, and it was important to me that we used live instrumentation,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
\u201cHip-hop was taking over at the time, but I was fighting to preserve the bridges, melodies, and harmonies that have always been at the heart of R&B. The goal was to blend those two worlds through the art of sampling. I loved the minimalism of a beautiful vocal arrangement over a simple drum loop or a classic guitar like \u2018Irreplaceable\u2019\u2026but only if that 808 was banging underneath,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n
What Is Included In Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s B\u2019Day 20th Anniversary Edition?<\/p>\n
For the anniversary release, Beyonc\u00e9 has remastered the album\u2019s music and videos. The accompanying visuals have also been recoloured and completed in 4K.\u00a0 A revamped version of the D\u00e9j\u00e0 Vu video featuring Jay-Z has also been released alongside the anniversary edition.<\/p>\n
The digital deluxe version expands the original tracklist considerably by bringing the total to 31 tracks. Alongside the familiar B\u2019Day songs, the collection includes rare recordings, Spanish versions, remixes and collaborations.<\/p>\n
Which New Songs Are On B\u2019Day Anniversary Edition?<\/p>\n
Among the previously unheard material is Can I Watch You which features Pharrell. The track was produced by Beyonc\u00e9 and Pharrell.\u00a0 The collection also features Morning Dew (Donk), My First Time, Lost Yo Mind, Creole and Back Up.<\/p>\n
Another new addition is Cuerpo (Tumbao) that features Colombian singer Maluma. The song marks Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s first collaboration with Maluma and samples Celia Cruz\u2019s La Negra Tiene Tumbao. The release notes that Beyonc\u00e9 has long admired Cruz and her connection to African culture.<\/p>\n
The track was produced by Beyonc\u00e9, Edgar Barrera and Casta, with Ali \u201cAli Ali\u201d Alvarez serving as co-producer.<\/p>\n
How Is Selena Quintanilla Featured On Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s New Release?<\/p>\n
One of the most notable additions to the anniversary edition is Irreemplazable (Como La Flor) that features previously released vocals from the late Selena Quintanilla.<\/p>\n
Selena\u2019s estate approved the duet that allowed her vocals to be incorporated into the new recording, as per Variety. Beyonc\u00e9 has previously spoken about her admiration for Selena, who was also from Texas.<\/p>\n
The release notes that Beyonc\u00e9 remembers listening to Selena on the radio while growing up in Houston. Selena\u2019s music also influenced Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s decision to record her Spanish-language EP Irreemplazable in 2007.<\/p>\n
