But as the world burned outside, this year\u2019s bumper summer was clearly a major relief for cinemas and the industry at large as it still looks to recover following recent seismic shifts.<\/p>\n
\n\t(Comscore\u2019s official numbers do state that 2024\u2019s August reached $163.1 million and 2019\u2019s $167.9, those were counted as five-week periods as the company\u2019s months run from the first Friday to the last.)<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d which released July 17, ended August with U.K. earnings of $108.6 million, easily Christopher Nolan\u2019s most successful film on home soil by some margin and still number 2 in the box office after seven weeks. \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day,\u201d meanwhile, released on July 29 and, five weeks on, still sits atop the box office with total earnings of $126.8 million. It\u2019ll likely top \u201cSpider-Man: No Way Home\u201d ($131. 7 million) as the highest-earning Marvel film in the U.K. by the end of September.<\/p>\n
\n\tOf course, the U.K. hasn\u2019t been the only market to benefit from the colossal earnings of the two biggest films of the year so far.
