Aaron Hill’s wait to reach a ranking event semi-final is set to go on after an agonising deciding frame defeat to Jak Jones in the British Open quarter-finals tonight.<\/p>\n
This was the fourth ranking event quarter-final of Hill’s career, but it’s now four defeats after his comeback fell short in a 5-4 loss.<\/p>\n
Jones, who inflicted one of those previous last eight defeats at the 2025 English Open, knocked in a break of 70 in the decider to send the Cork man out.<\/p>\n
Hill had led at 2-1 after back-to-back breaks of 63 and 67 but Jones then began to take control, winning the next three frames to leave himself on the brink of going through.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old, who is at a career high of 38 in the world rankings, dug deep to win the next two, keeping his opponent scoreless, and knocking in his highest break of the match – a 78 – to force a dcider.<\/p>\n
And Hill got in first in the last frame but Jones did what he had to with the break of 70, finishing off the match with one final visit.<\/p>\n
