{"id":614984,"date":"2026-09-05T05:04:17","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T05:04:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/614984\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T05:04:17","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T05:04:17","slug":"owner-of-one-of-irelands-best-known-pubs-sees-profits-near-e10m-in-2025-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/614984\/","title":{"rendered":"Owner of one of Ireland\u2019s best-known pubs sees profits near \u20ac10m in 2025 \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Pints of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/guinness\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/guinness\/\">Guinness<\/a> for more than \u20ac10 helped the owner of one of the country\u2019s best-known pubs, The Temple Bar in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/temple-bar\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/temple-bar\/\">Temple Bar<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\">Dublin<\/a>, increase pretax profits by 46.4 per cent to \u20ac9.61 million last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">New consolidated accounts filed by Tom Cleary\u2019s Hillbreak Ltd show that pretax profits at the hospitality group increased on the back of revenue rising by 16 per cent  to \u20ac38.35 million in the 12 months to the end of October.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The pretax profits are well  up on the  \u20ac6.56 million for the previous year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Temple Bar\u2019s pub front of the Temple Bar is one of the most well known in Ireland. A drinks receipt from the pub put online by a customer went viral in May last year with 85,000 views on X.com showing a price for a pint of Guinness cost \u20ac10.45. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The receipt included a note from The Temple Bar pub to state that \u201call prices include live music and cover charge\u201d along with 23 per cent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/vat\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/vat\/\">VAT<\/a> and excise duty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Ordering a pint directly to a table now costs \u20ac10.95, according to The Temple Bar\u2019s website. A pint of Heineken or Carlsberg costs \u20ac11.95. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Hillbreak was incorporated in May 2022 and counts the operator of Temple Bar, Temple Inns Ltd as one of its subsidiaries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The group generated cash of \u20ac13.85 million from operations last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Operating profits increased by 27 per cent to \u20ac11.46 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Net interest payments of \u20ac1.82 million reduced operating profits to a pretax profit of \u20ac9.6 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The group recorded an after-tax profit of \u20ac8.29 million after incurring a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/corporation-tax\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/corporation-tax\/\">corporation tax<\/a> charge of \u20ac1.3 million. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Numbers employed remained at 92 as staff costs increased from \u20ac7.53 million to \u20ac8.06 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"> The company\u2019s accumulated profits stood at \u20ac24.35 million at the end of October.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The shareholder funds also include cash funds of \u20ac24 million.
