TV presenter Andi Peters<\/a> has addressed Miriam Margolyes<\/a>\u2019 questioning of his race live on air while presenting This Morning<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Actor Margolyes, 85, has become increasingly known for her unpredictable chat show appearances, and her comments about Peters\u2019 heritage on the ITV<\/a> daytime series on Thursday (3 September) left show bosses so \u201cnervous\u201d they were edited from the episode that was added to catch-up service ITVX.<\/p>\n

After Margolyes started impersonating co-host Christine Lampard\u2019s Northern Irish accent, she asked Peters: \u201cWhat accent would be normal for you? What are you?\u201d<\/p>\n

Peters replied: \u201cWhat am I? I\u2019m me,\u201d to which the Harry Potter actor said: \u201cWell, you\u2019re a mix, aren\u2019t you? So you\u2019ve got a Black daddy and a white mummy.\u201d <\/p>\n

He informed Margolyes that both of his parents are Black, following which she used an outdated phrase. When the host said that he \u201cdidn\u2019t know there were shades\u201d, Margolyes stated: \u201cThere are shades.\u201d<\/p>\n

At this point, producers expressed their concern over the conversation in Peters\u2019 earpiece, with the host saying: \u201cThey\u2019re getting nervous now.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t be nervous,\u2019 Margolyes said, adding: \u201cWe welcome everybody, and that\u2019s what I want to write about in my book.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the episode aired and the clip went viral online, broadcaster Jeremy Vine wrote on Instagram: This is seriously nerve-wracking. No filter. Andi Peters dealt with it brilliantly, but note at the end \u2013 \u2018They’re getting nervous’ [the producers].\u2019<\/p>\n

Peters wrote back: \u201cThanks JV. As you know we have to be ready for ANYTHING!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

The Independent has contacted Margolyes, Peters and ITV for comment.<\/p>\n

In 2023, Margolyes expressed her \u201cregret\u201d over asking<\/a> the late Friends star Matthew Perry whether \u201che was an alcoholic\u201d on The Graham Norton Show.<\/p>\n

The theatre and film star, whose credits include The Age of Innocence and Harry Potter and the Philospher\u2019s Stone, appeared on Norton\u2019s BBC chat show in 2020 alongside the actor, who died in October 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Margolyes said, upon reflection, she \u201creally wishes\u201d she hadn\u2019t asked him that question, adding that it \u201cwas one of the few times\u201d she \u201cdidn\u2019t quite \u2018mesh\u2019 with another guest\u201d on a chat show.<\/p>\n
