{"id":616205,"date":"2026-09-06T11:04:16","date_gmt":"2026-09-06T11:04:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/616205\/"},"modified":"2026-09-06T11:04:16","modified_gmt":"2026-09-06T11:04:16","slug":"1300-sign-boyle-aldi-petition-as-appeal-decision-awaits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/616205\/","title":{"rendered":"1,300 sign Boyle ALDI petition as appeal decision awaits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 1,300 people have signed a petition calling for an ALDI store in Boyle.<\/p>\n<p>A demonstration took place in the town in February after plans approved by Roscommon County Council were appealed to An Coimisi\u00fan Plean\u00e1la by a third party.<\/p>\n<p>It remains to be seen when the planning body will make a decision.<\/p>\n<p>A decision had initially been expected in late June, but that deadline was extended to allow to mid-August for further information to be submitted.<\/p>\n<p>If approved, the proposal would see the construction of a discount foodstore, including an off-licence, along with the demolition of derelict structures and the repair and refurbishment of the terrace to provide five residential dwellings on St Patrick&#8217;s Street.<\/p>\n<p>Organisers of February&#8217;s demonstration have been gathering signatures at The Crescent in the town on Friday and Saturday morning and into the early afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>One of those organisers, former town Mayor Jane Suffin, outlined the reasons for the petition to Shannonside FM:<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"More than 1,300 people have signed a petition calling for an ALDI store in Boyle.
