South Africa\u2019s agricultural exports hit a record $4.1 billion in the second quarter, up 10% from a year earlier, as stronger volumes and prices boosted shipments.<\/p>\n


\n South Africa\u2019s agricultural exports rose 10% in the second quarter from a year earlier, reaching a record $4.1 billion, supported by higher export volumes and improved commodity prices. \n <\/p>\n


\n The figures highlight the continued strength of one of the country\u2019s most resilient economic sectors. According to Wandile Sihlobo, chief economist at the Agricultural Business Chamber of South Africa, exports have benefited from strong harvests, rising global prices and improved port performance. \n <\/p>\n


\n Shipments to the United States also recorded a sharp recovery, rising 56% from the first quarter as the effective US tariff rate on South African agricultural products fell to 12.5% from 30%, per Bloomberg<\/a>‘s report. \n <\/p>\n


\n However, exports to the US remained below the level recorded during the same period last year. \n <\/p>\n

\n Africa remains an important destination for South African farmers, accounting for about 40% of the country\u2019s agricultural shipments. The sector has expanded steadily over the past two decades, driven by the growth of citrus, fruits and nuts alongside traditional exports such as maize. \n <\/p>\n


\n South Africa is also expecting a record maize harvest this year. However, production could come under pressure in the next season if the anticipated El Ni\u00f1o weather pattern brings drier conditions to Southern Africa. \n <\/p>\n
