{"id":618741,"date":"2026-09-09T00:18:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T00:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/618741\/"},"modified":"2026-09-09T00:18:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T00:18:10","slug":"irish-airports-impacted-by-major-uk-flight-disruption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/618741\/","title":{"rendered":"Irish airports impacted by major UK flight disruption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over 1,000 flights were reported cancelled at UK airports including many coming to or leaving from <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/news\/ireland\/\">Ireland<\/a> as chaos followed an air traffic control glitch on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Late into the evening passengers including at <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/news\/cork-news\/\">Cork<\/a> and Shannon were being advised to keep checking their flights for updates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">FlightRadar24 tracks air traffic in real time around the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">On Tuesday evening it posted on X that the rate of inbound flights to London, Manchester and Birmingham was much lower than last Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cMore than 1,000 flights have been canceled at UK airports following a technical failure at a NATS ATC facility earlier today,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The NATS air traffic control office apologised to passengers at 19.30 on Tuesday, having first confirmed the problems around lunch-time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It said staff were \u201cworking as hard as possible\u201d to clear the backlog.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In Cork, passengers arriving and leaving were affected by the latest advice, issued also around 7.30pm, to continue checking flight details directly with airlines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Barry Holland, communications manager for Cork Airport, said some flights are subject to delays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cNine flights were cancelled, five inbound and four outbound,\u201d he said on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cPassengers scheduled to fly this evening are advised to get in touch with their airline directly for the latest updates on their flight.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Shannon Airport has marked several flights inbound and outbound as cancelled, including an evening flight to London Heathrow as well as arrivals from Heathrow and Birmingham.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Ireland West Airport in Knock also advised passengers on Tuesday evening of \u201csome disruption\u201d to flight departures from the UK.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Dublin Airport saw 23 departing and 21 arriving flights cancelled by 5pm. It warned passengers that \u201cfurther disruption is possible as the evening goes on\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Dublin also advised passengers intending to fly later on Tuesday to contact airlines directly for updates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">NATS said: \u201cOur system issue is now resolved, we are operating normally and working as hard as possible to clear the backlog of flights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe are truly sorry for the ongoing flight disruption. We know this is hugely frustrating and apologise unreservedly.
