<\/p>\nNASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) \u2014 Music legend George Strait is about to receive a major honor from the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n
Strait will get the Career Maker Award during the organization’s annual gala at Music City Center on Monday, Oct. 26. The award is given to people outside the Hall of Fame whose work has helped songwriters reach the level of being inducted.<\/p>\n
Over his 40-plus-year career, Strait recorded 264 songs, including 65 Top 40 singles, written or co-written by 72 Hall of Fame songwriters. <\/p>\n

He was the first to cut songs from 44 of these writers before they became Hall of Fame members.<\/p>\n
Throughout his phenomenal career as an artist, George Strait has played an integral role in helping more than 40 songwriters achieve induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, which is why we want to express our gratitude to him on Nashville Songwriting\u2019s Most Legendary Night,\u201d said Rich Hallworth, chair of the organization\u2019s board of directors.. Having George Strait record a song of mine, especially so early in my career, felt like nothing less than a stamp of approval from Country music itself,\u201d said Hall of Fame songwriter Gretchen Peters, board vice chair and co-writer of Strait\u2019s \u201cThe Chill Of An Early Fall.\u201d \u201cIt said, \u2018You belong here; you\u2019ve earned your bona fides.\u2019 George is so deeply rooted in the traditions of Country music, so beloved and respected and unassailable in his song choices. Every song he touches becomes, de facto, a George Strait song. To a young songwriter, that meant the world.. I\u2019m so honored to be receiving the Career Maker Award from the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame,\u201d Strait said. \u201cI look forward to being there with some of the most talented Hall of Fame songwriters I\u2019ve been so lucky to be associated with throughout my career. Strait becomes only the second person to receive the Career Maker Award, joining Reba McEntire who was honored in 2018. <\/p>\n
