Two people have been arrested following a \u201cpublic disorder incident\u201d in Dublin\u2019s East Wall area this afternoon.<\/p>\n

They have both been brought to Garda stations in the Dublin region.<\/p>\n

Garda\u00ed say they had attended and were monitoring a number of public gatherings in Dublin city today<\/p>\n

During the afternoon a protest group gathered in the East Wall area.<\/p>\n

As the public gathering moved towards Dublin Port Tunnel a Garda cordon was established to prevent a protest from blocking the tunnel and to \u201cmaintain traffic movement through key infrastructure\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na attempted to engage with the protest group over the course of the afternoon to disperse the protest in a voluntary manner,\u201d a Garda spokesperson added.<\/p>\n

Gardai say they deployed \u201can escalation of response\u201d in accordance with procedures.<\/p>\n

Members of the Garda National Public Order Unit, dressed in \u2019soft cap\u2019 uniform, supported by frontline uniformed garda\u00ed, intervened to prevent a breach of the Garda cordon which included the use of incapacitant spray on protesters,\u201d the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwo individuals have been arrested for public order offences and have been brought to Garda stations in the Dublin region.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to garda\u00ed, following further engagement with protesters the protest has now dispersed.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na is not aware of any injuries being reported,\u201d gardai added.<\/p>\n

\u201cTraffic flow is being returned to normal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gardai say they will be carrying out further investigations in relation to this public disorder incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a constitutional right to assemble peaceably, subject to statutory provisions,\u201d a Garda spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
