The end of Gwyneth Paltrow<\/a>‘s romance with Brad Pitt<\/a> left her reeling.<\/p>\n

The actors met in 1994, while making the movie Seven, and dated for several years. They were even engaged in 1996, but by 1997, they had broken up.<\/p>\n

“I was so bummed out when we broke up, and I think that the press aspect and all that makes it feel larger than life in a way,” Paltrow said on the latest episode of the Friends Keep Secrets<\/a> podcast<\/a>. “You have to carry this faux important, cultural importance piece, and it’s like this extra burden and this extra almost shame that it didn’t work out.”<\/p>\n

She reiterated that the split was “hard.” Paltrow said on the podcast, as she has in previous comments, that she still has love for the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star.<\/p>\n

“He’s a great guy, and I love him to this day,” she said of Pitt. “He’s a friend.”<\/p>\n

The Sliding Doors actress, who turns 54 this month, defended Pitt in a 2003 interview<\/a> with ABC’s Diane Sawyer on Primetime.<\/p>\n

“I was the architect of my own misery,” Paltrow said. “I just made a big mess out of it,” she added, noting that she was lucky it lasted at all, “especially when I was such a mess.”<\/p>\n

Paltrow and Pitt both went on to have even higher-profile breakups.<\/p>\n

For Pitt, they were with future wives Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie.<\/p>\n

For her part, Paltrow famously popularized the term “conscious uncoupling”<\/a> when she and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin spit in 2014.<\/p>\n

The Oscar winner married producer Brad Falchuk in 2018.<\/p>\n

Pitt, who’s currently dating Ines de Ramon, confirmed his love for his ex in a June 2022 interview<\/a> on her Goop website.<\/p>\n

“It’s lovely to have you as a friend now,” he told Paltrow. “And I do love you.”<\/p>\n
