Then obviously supplements for deficiencies like iron can be helpful.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Organic food<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The &#8216;organic&#8217; label has become a buzzword in supermarket advertising and while there are some instances where organic produce can be the better option, that&#8217;s not necessarily always the case.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">He says, \u2018I think a lot of people believe that organic means pesticide-free and more nutrient-dense fruit and vegetables, and a lot of the time it isn&#8217;t.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-634e018aa2d53e01\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/111001317-16098749-image-a-22_1788355331681.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\" alt=\"'Organic' has become a buzzword in supermarket advertising, but it doesn't necessarily mean that produce is any better for you.\" class=\"blkBorder img-share\" style=\"max-width:100%\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>   <\/p>\n<p class=\"imageCaption\">&#8216;Organic&#8217; has become a buzzword in supermarket advertising, but it doesn&#8217;t necessarily mean that produce is any better for you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">While the benefits of organic produce might include the type or amount of pesticide used in farming, for Ulloa it&#8217;s largely an excuse for supermarkets to hike the prices.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The real issue, according to Ulloa, is that the majority of people simply aren&#8217;t getting enough fruits and vegetables.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">So, never mind the organic label and instead just focus on packing in your five a day; frozen and tinned vegetables can be just as nutritious as their fresh counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>Early morning workouts<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Sleep in and rejoice!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">For the longest time early morning risers have been praised for squeezing in an early morning gym session before work but, according to Ulloa, there are no extra benefits to an early morning workout.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018I think there\u2019s a belief when it comes to fitness and nutrition that, in order for something to be beneficial, it has to be quite painful to do. But working out early in the morning is no better for you than exercising in the afternoon or evening,&#8217; says Ulloa.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;I certainly wouldn&#8217;t compromise sleep if it can be done at another time.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cold plunges and ice baths<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">While ice baths and cold plunges have been trending on social media, the research on their health benefits is actually quite sparse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;It might help with reducing perceptions of soreness around endurance exercise, but other than that the benefits are actually quite mild.\u00a0Claims about reducing inflammation and helping to detox just aren\u2019t true.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-d729753f67d6368e\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/111001361-16098749-Ulloa_says_that_research_on_the_health_benefits_of_cold_plunges_-a-1_178888409027.jpeg\" height=\"422\" width=\"634\" alt=\"Ulloa says that research on the health benefits of cold plunges and ice baths are actually quite sparse.\" class=\"blkBorder img-share\" style=\"max-width:100%\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>   <\/p>\n<p class=\"imageCaption\">Ulloa says that research on the health benefits of cold plunges and ice baths are actually quite sparse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">However, while there&#8217;s little evidence that a cold dip can help to support fitness goals, Ulloa does point to the mental health benefits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Ultimately, he suggests: \u2018If you enjoy it and it makes you feel good, amazing. Otherwise, don&#8217;t force yourself into a ice bath because all these magical health benefits are being claimed.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Visible abs<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Influencers online might be well be promoting &#8216;skinny culture&#8217;, but restricting food and focussing on making your body as small as it can be is not healthy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Ulloa is clear, \u2018The large majority of people would not healthily be able to sit at a body fat level where you can see abs.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">For most people, abs and body fat are genetically dependent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Ulloa says: \u2018For the large majority of people to achieve that look, they would have to adopt some incredibly restricted eating and addictive exercising behaviours which can cause knock on effects for stress levels, hormone function and menstrual cycle.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Calorie counting<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Contrary to decades of dieting guides, Ulloa says, \u2018The large majority of us don\u2019t need to worry about counting calories.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Instead, he suggests that we need to focus on the basics and implement a more comprehensive approach to our diets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018The first one that springs to mind is fibre intake which tracks very closely to health longevity.\u2019 That means prioritising things like chia seeds, berries and lentils.<\/p>\n<p>Running<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">While Ulloa advises that it\u2019s wise to do some form of strength training, he&#8217;s clear that this doesn&#8217;t have to be running.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018If you think that running is awful and you hate it, don\u2019t bother trying to get into it because it\u2019s not something you\u2019ll stick to long-term.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">His advice? Instead, focus on exercise that you enjoy (or that you tolerate at the least).<\/p>\n<p>Giving up sugar<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">It\u2019s trendy to bash sugar, but according to Ulloa, there\u2019s far more nuance than that. For example, fruit has sugar in it, but it\u2019s also full of fibre and macronutrients.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">In fact, he says, \u2018I\u2019m of the opinion that every single food can be part of a healthy diet, the danger is really just in the dose.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">His advice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018Should we eat loads of sugar? No, absolutely not. But that doesn\u2019t mean we should ban it and scare people away from something that is in most foods, including foods that can be very nutritionally dense.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>You don\u2019t have to love the gym<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Not all is lost if the gym isn&#8217;t your thing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018I\u2019ve worked with clients who have never stepped foot in a gym and who do exercises at home with resistance bands and dumbbells&#8217;, says Ulloa. \u2018There\u2019s a lot of equipment that you can play around with, but that doesn\u2019t mean you have to be there.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Instead, it&#8217;s about finding exercise that you can implement into your life and not setting unrealistic expectations of becoming a gym bunny.<\/p>\n<p>Filtered water<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018Tap water is something that gets a really bad rap at the moment,\u2019 according to Ulloa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">From myths that it won&#8217;t hydrate you efficiently or that it doesn\u2019t contain all of the minerals that you need, tap water in the UK is more than fine \u2013 especially alongside a varied and healthy diet.<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-7c1c55ca9203b6ee\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/111000713-16098749-While_social_media_promotes_water_filters_and_remineralisers_Ull-a-3_178888409027.jpeg\" height=\"425\" width=\"634\" alt=\"While social media promotes water filters and remineralisers, Ulloa says regular tap water will do just fine.\" class=\"blkBorder img-share\" style=\"max-width:100%\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>   <\/p>\n<p class=\"imageCaption\">While social media promotes water filters and remineralisers, Ulloa says regular tap water will do just fine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">So why the obsession with filtered water?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018I think it mostly stems from content creators in the US as we tend to follow suit with a lot of their health trends,&#8217; suggests Ulloa. &#8216;But we don\u2019t need any fancy equipment to remineralise it, or hydro water, tap water is fine.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">And electrolytes?<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">\u2018If you\u2019re a very sweaty person when you exercise, you\u2019d probably benefit from an electrolyte supplement.
