\n “Forty thousand volunteers from all over the country crammed into Holyrood<\/a> Park for inspection by King Edward VII – and the event attracted an estimated quarter of a million spectators, watching from on every available viewing point.\n<\/p>\n \n “Hutchison was one of the best-known Scottish artists of the early 20th century, indeed he has been described as ‘possibly the best loved of Scottish artists’, but this was way out his normal area of interest and depicting such a vast event must have been quite a challenge.\n<\/p>\n \n “That said, he obviously impressed people in Royal circles because five years later he was commissioned to paint the coronation of George V at Westminster Abbey.”\n<\/p>\n \n He added: “The painting has been entered in the auction by members of a family who were clearing a house in Ware, Hertfordshire, following the death of a relative. It is one of a clutch of pictures that they found and which they have asked us to sell.
