Ciar\u00e1n Hinds will star opposite Paul Mescal in the upcoming co-production of the Tom Murphy play A Whistle in the Dark by the Abbey Theatre and Britain’s National Theatre.<\/p>\n
The co-production, directed by Abbey Theatre Artistic Director Caitr\u00edona McLaughlin, will be staged at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin from Wednesday, 13 October to Saturday, 30 October 2027 as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival, following its London run at the National Theatre’s Lyttelton Theatre.<\/p>\n
Tickets for the Dublin performances will go on sale in 2027, with further details to be announced.<\/p>\n
First staged in 1961, A Whistle in the Dark tells the story of Michael Carney, who settles in Coventry with his wife, Betty, and tries to build a new life.<\/p>\n
However, leaving Ireland does not set him free, and confrontation with his family ensues.<\/p>\n
Mescal, whose casting was first announced last year, will make his debut at Britain’s National Theatre in the role of Michael Carney.<\/p>\n
The production will also mark the first time that the work of the late Irish playwright Tom Murphy has been staged at the National Theatre of Great Britain.<\/p>\n
Alongside Mescal and Hinds, the cast also includes Peter Corboy, Eimhin Fitzgerald Doherty, Ryan Donaldson, Aisling Loftus, and Julian Moore-Cook.<\/p>\n
