On 31 July 2026, a total of 4.43 million non-EU<\/a> citizens who fled Ukraine had temporary protection<\/a> status in the EU. Compared with the end of June 2026, the number of people from Ukraine under temporary protection increased by 19 945 (+0.5%).<\/p>\n

The EU countries hosting the highest number of beneficiaries of temporary protection from Ukraine were Germany (1 290 225 people; 29.1% of the EU total), Poland (953 060; 21.5%) and Czechia (395 225; 8.9%).\u00a0<\/p>\n

Compared with the end of June 2026, the number of people under temporary protection increased in 23 of the 26 EU countries with available data, with the 3 largest absolute increases observed in Czechia (+4 415; +1.1%), Romania (+4 055; +1.9%) and Germany (+3 995; +0.3%). The 3 countries that registered decreases were Poland (-8 110; -0.8%), France (-475; -1.0%) and Cyprus (-110; -0.4%).<\/p>\n

The highest ratios of temporary protection beneficiaries per thousand people were observed in Czechia at 36.2, Slovakia (27.5) and Cyprus (26.7), compared with 9.8 at EU level.<\/p>\n

On 31 July 2026, Ukrainian citizens represented over 98.5% of the beneficiaries of temporary protection in the EU. Adult women made up 43.4% of the total, adult men 27.1%, and minors almost one-third (29.4%) of all beneficiaries.<\/p>\n

The data presented in this article refer to the attribution of temporary protection status based on the Council Implementing Decision 2022\/382 of 4 March 2022<\/a>, which recognises the existence of a mass influx of displaced persons from Ukraine due to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, and introduces temporary protection.<\/p>\n
