I guess it really is lonely at the top. In a new interview<\/a> on Jake Shane\u2019s podcast, Therapuss, Nicole Kidman<\/a> opened up about one of the saddest moments of her life, which was, ironically, the night she brought home her very first Oscar. While promoting Practical Magic 2, Kidman and her longtime friend and co-star Sandra Bullock sat down with the 26-year-old to chat about reuniting for witchery and their storied careers. When Shane asked the women how they stay present for the \u201cincredible moments that feel so out of body,\u201d Kidman recalled the 75th Academy Awards in 2003, when she took home the award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in The Hours. \u201cI was beyond lonely,\u201d she said. \u201cI had the pinnacle of my success, and I went home and was so lonely.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had my mom with me and my dad, but I was like, \u2018Where\u2019s my partner, someone that I can share this with?\u2019\u201d she recalled. \u201cIt was one of the most profound moments where I went, \u2018I\u2019ve got to get a life,\u2019 and at the same time, I\u2019m holding this gold statue where you go, \u2018This is it. This is the highest sort of prize you can get in our industry.\u2019 I\u2019m so grateful and yet so lonely.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time, Kidman said she was still recovering from her divorce. She\u2019d been married to Tom Cruise for over a decade when they split in 2001, leaving the actress longing for a partner to share her life \u2014 and triumphs \u2014 with. \u201cWeird, is what I felt,\u201d she remembered. \u201cI\u2019d love to be able to just, you know, be wrapped in somebody\u2019s arms right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Three years later, Kidman married country artist Keith Urban, with whom she shares two daughters, 18-year-old Sunday Rose and 15-year-old Faith Margaret. (The couple finalized their divorce<\/a> earlier this year after 19 years of marriage.) While Kidman has found herself single once more, she\u2019s got a full plate and social life this time around. She\u2019s overseeing Sunday Rose\u2019s budding modeling career<\/a>, training to become a death doula<\/a>, and inspiring pop star Ad\u00e9la so much that the 22-year-old wrote a whole song<\/a> about her, aptly titled \u201cNicole Kidman.\u201d Let\u2019s raise a glass of milk to that.<\/p>\n
