Millions in new funding boost Florida’s Space Coast launch infrastructure<\/p>\n

Our Space Coast continues to grow, and now another major rocket company is inching closer to a launch date. This comes as several other commercial space companies received millions of dollars Thursday to support infrastructure needed to launch more rockets.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an indicator of what\u2019s to come,\u201d University of Central Florida planetary scientist Philip Metzger said.<\/p>\n

This week, the company secured funding to develop its next project, a larger rocket called Nova Block 2. In total, $2.3 billion has been secured.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe space economy is growing explosively,\u201d Metzger said. \u201cOver the last few years, we\u2019ve gone from one launch a month, and now it\u2019s almost one launch a day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Space Florida announced funding for several new projects during its Thursday morning meeting.<\/p>\n

Relativity Space received $20 million for a payload processing facility, an upper-stage testing facility, and to expand its launch pad site.<\/p>\n

Blue Origin received $2.5 million for its payload processing facility.<\/p>\n

ULA received $10.8 million for a new water treatment facility.<\/p>\n

SpaceX received $7.7 million for improvements to the NASA Causeway.<\/p>\n

All of this will help increase launch cadence among the companies.<\/p>\n
