Addressing the crowd at the Pentagon\u2019s commemorative ceremony, US president Donald Trump said, \u201cin 25 years, a generation has passed since the terror attacks.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cYet time has not dimmed the honour of that day our country came face-to-face with true evil.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cToday we renew the sacred oath that we first swore in their names a quarter of a century ago,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe will never, ever forget. That\u2019s why we fight today.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOn days like 9\/11, we learn what a country is truly made of\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re learning right now what we\u2019re made of and we have to be strong and we have to be smart,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The president said the US will never be the same after the events of September 11th, 2001.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were all New Yorkers that day,\u201d he said of September 11th. \u201cBut we\u2019re also all Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump defended the war in Iran as he said, \u201cWe\u2019re still sending terrorists where they belong \u2014 to hell.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd tankers to the bottom of the ocean where they belong, and we are ensuring that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. The economic pressure tightens every day. We control the Strait. We will finish this fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe courage of those extraordinary Americans in Pennsylvania, in New York, and right here on these hallowed grounds did not end when the smoke cleared and the fires went out, because survivors and families have carried it forward through service, through sacrifice, and through remembrance.\u201d<\/p>\n

US president Donald Trump has arrived at the Pentagon ceremony to commemorate the victims of the September 11th attack. <\/p>\n

The president is set to speak and take part in a wreath-laying ceremony.<\/p>\n

At the Pentagon, the names of the 184 victims of the September 11 attacks on the Department of Defense are being read aloud. <\/p>\n

In New York City, the national September 11 memorial and museum will hold its annual commemoration ceremony, with the families of victims gathering at the 9\/11 Memorial Plaza and reading aloud the names of those killed in the 9\/11 attacks and in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.<\/p>\n

Current and former New York City leaders and other political figures are also expected to attend the ceremony, including the city\u2019s mayor, Zohran Mamdani.<\/p>\n

The New York Times reported this month that former president Joe Biden and former first lady Jill Biden, as well as former presidents Barack Obama, George W Bush and Bill Clinton, and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, are also expected to attend. – Guardian<\/p>\n

He said of the victims, at least 18 were Irish citizens and an estimated 1,000 were of Irish heritage.<\/p>\n

He said it was strongly felt in Ireland due to the \u201cclose bonds between our two nations and people.\u201d<\/p>\n

On this day 25 years ago, the Ladder 3 crew sat at the maple table, having breakfast, writes Washington correspondent Keith Duggan.<\/p>\n

They had less than two hours to live. Eight in the morning is a hectic time, with the night tour crew clocking off and the morning tour unit already arrived.<\/p>\n

Officially, the tour, or shift, hours are 9am-6pm and 6pm-9am, but Ladder 3 had an inherited tradition where the morning crew would arrive a few hours before the shift officially started. <\/p>\n

Seventh moment of silence added to New York commemoration<\/p>\n

A new moment of silence, honoring all who have died from the health effects of 9\/11 and its aftermath, will be added to the annual commemoration ceremony in New York.<\/p>\n

For the past 24 years, the 9\/11 commemoration has included six moments of silence to mark the times when each of the World Trade Center towers\u00a0was struck, when each tower fell, and the times corresponding to the attack at\u00a0the Pentagon and the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since 9\/11, thousands of first responders, rescue, recovery and relief workers and lower Manhattan community members have died from 9\/11-related illnesses. <\/p>\n

The seventh moment of silence will become a permanent part of the annual ceremony.<\/p>\n

There are few more enduring images of the terrible events of\u00a09\/11\u00a0than those of\u00a0New York\u00a0firefighters pulling the body of Fr Mychal Judge from the remains of the Twin Towers, writes Ronan McGreevy.<\/p>\n

Where others fled the collapsing towers, Judge remained at post to give the last rites to the firemen on site. He was in the lobby of the North Tower praying for victims when the South Tower collapsed, burying him under the rubble and killing him.<\/p>\n

The photograph of Judge was taken by Reuters photographer Shannon Stapleton, who was in the area on another job when the attacks happened. It was one of the first photographs taken after the towers collapsed.<\/p>\n

Judge, a Franciscan priest, became known as Victim 0001, of 9\/11, of the 2,603 people who died when two hijacked planes crashed into the Twin Towers on the morning of September 11th, 2001.<\/p>\n

US president Donald Trump plans to attend the Pentagon\u2019s anniversary ceremony later today. <\/p>\n

This is the second year in a row for Trump to mark the day at the Pentagon. <\/p>\n

At a Tuesday event at the Ellipse just outside the White House, Trump vowed to \u201cnever forget\u201d victims, noting that the attacks were one of few moments in history that \u201cdivide time into really what came before\u201d and after.<\/p>\n

When American civil and political leaders gather at the 9\/11 memorial in\u00a0New York\u00a0on Friday, their focus will properly be on the almost 3,000 people who were murdered in the attacks 25 years ago, writes China correspondent Denis Staunton.<\/p>\n
