Immersive Maple Ridge exhibition kicks off ACT Art Gallery season<\/p>\n

Bold colours and expressive brushwork embody The ACT Art Centre\u2019s first exhibition of the season.<\/p>\n
New works by Vancouver-based artist Laurence Belzile will be featured in this solo exhibition called \u201cCr\u00e9atrices d\u2019images.\u201d<\/p>\n
This exhibition centers around five large-scale abstract paintings dedicated to five artists who influence Laurence Belzile\u2019s practice: Betty Goodwin, Faith Ringgold, Georgia O\u2019Keeffe, Fran\u00e7oise Sullivan, and Marlene Dumas.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m excited to begin the 2026-2027 season with Laurence Belzile\u2019s vibrant abstract solo exhibition, Cr\u00e9atrices d\u2019images,\u201d said Courtney Miller, gallery manager and curator.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough her homage to five women artists, Belzile highlights their presence within art history while offering viewers insight into the artists who have shaped her practice,\u201d added Miller.<\/p>\n
Belzile\u2019s artwork is described as vibrant and textural, that embrace the language and nature of abstract painting, while drawing inspiration from the five visionary female artists.<\/p>\n
Her work reflects elements of storytelling and representation, as Belzile reinterprets each artist\u2019s techniques in her own style.<\/p>\n
The large-scale paintings, which are 54 x 76 inches each, create an immersive gallery environment that intends to draw visitors into the work.<\/p>\n
The abstract paintings are also paired with reference materials and smaller accompanying works, anchoring the artist\u2019s artistic practice within a lineage of influential women artists.<\/p>\n
Belzile has had an active role within Vancouver\u2019s francophone community, and so all exhibition information panels and printed promotional materials are presented in both French and English.<\/p>\n
A free opening reception is being held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at The ACT Art Gallery at 11944 Haney Place, Maple Ridge. <\/p>\n
It will feature an interview-style conversation at 2:30 p.m., between the artist and Miller.<\/p>\n
The exhibition runs until Saturday, Nov. 7.<\/p>\n
Regular Gallery Hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and other selected evenings. General admission to The ACT Art Gallery is free. <\/p>\n
The ACT Art Gallery is owned and operated by the City of Maple Ridge and presents rotating exhibitions featuring emerging and mid-career artists from across the region and beyond.<\/p>\n
